GameStop is committed to ensuring a smooth and transparent experience for our customers during the federal tax holiday. This document outlines our comprehensive policy for tax exemptions, corrections and refunds.
Tax Holiday Period
Dates of Tax Exemption: From December 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025, qualifying items are GST/HST exempt under the Tax Break for All Canadians Act (Bill C-78), subject to parliamentary approval.
Purchases During This Period: Qualifying taxes will be automatically removed at the point of purchase for qualifying items both in store and online.
In order to qualify for the exemption items must be paid for and delivered within the qualifying period.
Please note: To ensure qualifying orders can be shipped within our 1-3 business days online processing times, GST/HST exemptions on qualifying products will be discontinued on GameStop.ca at 11:59PM ET on Wed, Feb 12th, 2025, and for in-store purchases when our stores close on Sat, Feb 15th, 2025.
Any BOPS orders placed for qualifying items must be picked up before our stores close on Sat, Feb 15th, 2025, In order to qualify for the tax rebate.
Pre-orders placed prior to December 14th
In store Pre-orders: Eligible pre-orders made prior to December 14, 2024 that will be released during the tax holiday period will automatically be adjusted at pick-up
Online Pre-orders:
- Eligible online pre-orders made prior to December 14, 2024 that will be shipped during the tax holiday period will require a refund of the tax amount
- Your eligible items will be shipped and charged at the original price and tax rates listed on your order confirmation email
- Once your item ships a refund of the federal tax will be issued to your original payment method
- Please allow 2-5 business days for the tax refund to be processed
- Once processed, refunds will be reflected to your original payment method within 2-10 business days
- Please do not reach out to request this refund, it will happen systematically based on qualifying products and release dates. Reaching out will not speed up the process
Resolving Tax Discrepancies
Eligible Period: Eligible purchases made between December 14, 2024 and February 15th
For In-Store Purchases
- Review the list of qualifying items here
- If an item appears on the qualifying list and you believe the tax was charged incorrectly during the qualifying period, contact the store where the purchase was made
- If the issue remains unresolved, contact GameStop Customer Service by email at help@gamestop.ca
Please include the following:
- A photo of your receipt
- The item number and description which you believe was incorrectly taxed
- The best phone number where you can be reached
- The closest store location
For Online Purchases
- Review the list of qualifying items here

- Order number
- Item details
- Reason for tax refund request
Please allow 1-3 business days for these requests to be reviewed and actioned.
Product Qualification Inquiries
If you believe an item should qualify for the tax break but it does not appear in the qualifying products list, please contact Customer Service for verification.
Please be aware that:
- Product eligibility reviews may take 1-3 business days
- Our team is working diligently to streamline and adjust to these new tax holiday regulations
- We will provide a comprehensive response regarding the item's tax-exempt status once we have had the chance to review
- Please do not visit a store location to request an exemption or correction on any item that does not appear in the tax exempt product list. Stores will not be able to apply the tax rebate on any item that does not appear on the list
- Items marketed and sold as collectibles and not meant for play, including Funko, McFarlane, Star Wars Black, Marvel Legends, etc. do not qualify for the tax holiday.
